United Nation Conference On Human Environment

Human Environment

In 1968, the General Assembly decided to convene a United Nations Conference on the Human Environment to seek solutions to the many problems of pollution and other menaces to health.

Following extensive advance work, the conference was held in Stockholm in June 1972. The Plan includes a global monitoring programme called "Earthwatch", to identify and measure environmental problems of world importance and to warn against impending crises.

The United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (HABITAT) was held from 31 May to 2 June 1976
